The application can submitted  in person (by  appointment)  or by mail.

Visa center was established for purposes of improvement of quality in serving foreign and stateless persons who request Russian visas; expediting and simplifying the visa procedure, creating maximum comfortable conditions for applicants. In USA, besides San Francisco, visa centers also operate in Washington DC, New York, Houston, and Seattle.


Visa centers are officially authorized to accept, process and forward documents including consular fees to diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Russian Federation for further consideration from individuals and companies as well as travel agencies and also to prepare for picking up passports with visas ready. The Visa centers employees consult applicants on matters related to visa applications, the required set of documents for obtaining visa, procedure and terms of getting visa etc.

The final decision to grant or refuse visas lies with Russian diplomatic missions and consular offices.

Foreign citizens have the right to apply directly to the Consulate General of Russia to obtain a visa for themselves or for a close relative by making a prior appointment only. In addition, certain categories of applicants such as U.S. Department of State and other officials can apply directly to the Russian Consular Institutions for their employees.

As for companies and organizations, including travel agencies and others that wish to obtain a visa for customers and employees, regardless of the purpose of visit to Russia, must apply through the Visa Centers only.

For its services, the Visa center will charge a fixed service fee of 33 USD which entirely goes into its disposal. Service charge is not to be mixed up with the consular fee payable to the Russian consular office. The amount of the visa fee established in accordance with Consular Tariff.
